Caterham Community Choir
In 2013 Tandridge Trust set up the new community choir with funding from Arts Partnership Surrey, Tandridge Community Partnership, supported by Councillor Jon Orrick and Caterham Hill Parish Council and Tandridge Trust itself.
The choir is operated in the style of the Natural Voice Practitioners Network. Singing leader Catherine Pestano says “It is a style which is great for building community, inclusion of those who are just starting on their singing journeys and need confidence. It also appeals to the more transcendent aspects of the human spirit!”
Natural Voice is about celebrating the voice you were born with, rather than trying to train it to an ideal of perfection. It's about building accepting, non-judgmental communities that sing together. It's about welcoming all voices into a group without audition and working from there to make a group sound. It's about making learning by ear accessible to the whole group so that nobody needs to be able to read music.
